Madhavi Thampi teaches Chinese History in the Department of East Asian Studies of Delhi University. She is the author ofIndians in China, 1800-1949 (Manohar, 2005). She is currently researching the role of India-China Trade in the growth and development of Mumbai. She is one of the few scholars who has been working on the history of Indians in China. Her book provides us a detailed account of the history of the Indian community in China and of the different waves of migration, and serves as an essential supplement to the story of the Chinese in India.
